The tug ‘Marlin’, equipped with cranes, departed from the port of IJmuiden in the Netherlands on the 12th of December last year and arrived in Curaçao last Thursday. Another ship will arrive during the month of February with special concrete that had to be produced in the Netherlands.

CPA1Currently pipe piles to support the pier are being produced in China. The first batch of 50 pipes will be shipped from China this week. The piles are approximately 50 meters long and more than 1.3 meters wide. Once in Curaçao, it will take about 2 to 3 weeks of preparation before the pipe piles can be driven into the ocean floor.

The Minister of Economic Development was out of the country and could not be present during the arrival of ‘Marlin’ but he was following the developments from a distance and is happy that the project is progressing according to plan. The pictures below shows the ongoing production process in China and the arrival of the tug ‘Marlin’ under the guidance and assistance of the Curaçao tugboat company, KTK.
